Shoot To Score (The Hockey Song) – Official Video Release

February 19, 2014

Shoot To Score VideoA Tribute To Women’s Hockey

There’s going to be a very big hockey game at the Olympics – again!! The Canadian Women vs the USA Women – the two BEST teams in the WORLD – will face off for the gold medal.

The sport has come a long way since I was a kid, thank goodness for that! I grew up in rural Ontario, and the winter months brought ice, snow and hockey! Home made rinks and ponds were cleared and kids from the whole neighbourhood showed up to play, girls and boys alike. Back in the 60’s there were no leagues for girls, but the decades following changed all that. In the late 70’s I decided to try out for a college team, thinking it would be much like the pond hockey games I played as a kid. Imagine my surprise when I showed up at the rink and all the girls were decked in full hockey gear from head to toe. I was completely unprepared and somewhat humiliated, but all these years later, the experience became the inspiration for this song!

“Shoot to Score” is a tribute to women’s hockey, and honours Lori Dupuis from my hometown of Cornwall, Ontario Canada. She played on the Women’s Olympic Hockey Team in Nagano and Salt Lake City, capturing silver and gold metals. You’ll also recognize other hockey legends named with Lori, but you’ll have to watch the whole video to find out who made the roster.

I dedicate this song to ALL women/girl hockey players! SHOOT TO SCORE!!!!

The shows all came together with the help of many friends and musician pals. Thank you Scott Rossley, Steve Rapson, Christine Hatch, Dawn Kenney, Deb O’Hanlon, Aisling Keating and Gail Finnie for sharing the stage with me at Amazing Things Arts Center in Framingham. Thank you to Roxanne Delage and Rod Robillard for opening the show at St Andrews United Church in Williamstown, Ontario. Also, thanks to Emilie Faucher and Jody Rachman for getting me involved in the Vespers Show in Shirley, Ma. Thanks Steve and Scott for joining me on WACA TV in Ashland, MA. Last but not least – the highlight of my week – sharing the stage at Main Street Cafe in Groton with four of my young music students, Luke & Owen Benedict (co-writers of the song Fa La La), and Liam & Caroline Clinton. I also did my first ‘live on line’ show via Thank you Phil Knudson, Andrea Harrison, Bruce Overbury, Bob Wright, and so many others who made these events happen.

Thank you to all of you who came out to gigs, bought CD’s, and supported this months musical journey. I treasure you all beyond words. Nancy

 Fa La La

* * * *

Amidst the flurry of standards heard each December, it’s always a treat when an artist gifts us with a collection of original tunes celebrating the holidays.  Singer-Songwriter Nancy Beaudette, who hails from Cornwall, Ontario but also plays regularly in Massachusetts, has done just that with her self-penned Fa La La.

Beaudette brings her homespun charm to this nine-song collection weaving her folk, country, and singer-songwriter sensibilities around these tales, which are both personal and festive, and work beautifully with her smoky voice. It’s unlikely you’ll hear a more intimate set of holiday tunes released this year.

The album opens with the effervescent title track, where the gentle strum of an acoustic guitar pairs beautifully with vibrant ribbons of mandolin. “Fa La La” is an infectious sing-along accented with everyone’s favorite traditions – getting a tree, hanging Continue reading
